Local Aberdeen businesses have raised more than £5000 for Charlie House by taking part in the charity’s Sports Day event at Kippie Lodge, helping it further support children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families.
Sponsored by Bilfinger, 42 people split across 10 teams channelled their inner competitive nature and took part in the ‘back to school’ themed retro Sports Day last month. Made up of representatives from Arnlea, Balfour and Manson, Bilfinger, Hutcheon Mearns and Robert Gordon University, along with teams of Charlie House staff, advocates and supported families, the ‘Bilfinger Boats’ were crowned as the winners.
The event included nostalgic classics such as the egg and spoon race, three-legged race, sack race and tug-of-war, while Kippie Lodge also provided its personal trainers to test endurance and athletic skills, putting teams through their paces with spin bike cycling, driving range activities and agility based competitions.
A take on the Highland Games was also incorporated into the day. Sponsored by Hutcheon Mearns, teams took part in traditional Scottish activities such as the caber toss and hammer throw.
Louise Bone, fundraising coordinator at Charlie House said: “We’re so impressed with everyone’s effort! Each team really embraced the traditional challenges as well as the endurance activities, creating a fantastic atmosphere full of hilarity and friendly competitiveness.
“A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped us raise this fantastic amount of money, which will aid the various services Charlie House offers families in the North-east.
“An event of this standard would not be possible without our sponsors, Billfinger, Kippie Lodge and Hutcheon Mearns, and our incredible volunteers who ensured the day went smoothly.”
