Who Will We Support From The Centre?
There are over 600 different conditions that can be deemed as life-limiting, that is a condition having no cure and potentially shortening the child’s life.
In the North-east of Scotland, we know there are around 1,800 babies, children and young people living with one of these conditions, there are also many undiagnosed and unique conditions and syndromes that also cause severe disability, multiple complex needs and can potentially shorten a child’s life.
We support families across the North-east – Aberdeen City & Shire, Moray, Orkney & Shetland - but we also know there are many more locally that need help. We would like to reach out to as many of these children and their families as possible and provide them with the support they require, and the creation of our specialist support centre will enable us to do exactly that.
“We discovered 'Charlie House' and the team. Suddenly we met people who knew where we were, what we needed and made us feel a lot less lonely.
Since then we have managed to provide a better life for our son, finding the right support for him and us. We have made some amazing friends who are in our position so understand the challenges. We have done activities that we would never have dreamed possible with our son and had the opportunity to go on trips which opened our eyes to the possibilities for families like ours.
We have accepted that the future for our son is a short one, but Charlie House is helping us to create great memories which we will cherish forever."
