Charlie House receives donation from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation towards equipment for families.

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has donated £1984 to an Aberdeen based charity as part of its support for charities across the UK.

Charlie House received the donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation after being nominated by colleagues at the Society’s Aberdeen branch.

Charlie House is a local children's charity that aims to improve the quality of life for babies, children and young people in the North-east of Scotland who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and provide support to their families. Established in 2011, the charity provides activities and projects that enable families to gain confidence, engage socially, enjoy activities together, meet others in a similar situation, share information and get emotional and practical support when they need it.

The £1984 donation to Charlie House will add value to their work through a Safe and Sound travel pod to add to their lending library of equipment. The families they support will be able to borrow the travel pod, free of charge. Having access to a travel pod will facilitate them being able to get away together and take a break from their caring routine.

Nicola Scott, manager of Yorkshire Building Society in Aberdeen, said: “We are proud to be able to support Charlie House in our community with a donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation. The work that they are doing to support families of children with life-limiting disabilities is providing a real benefit to their lives.”

Louise Andrew, CEO of Charlie House, said: “We are so grateful for the donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation for helping us make something that seemed impossible possible. The families we support have told us how challenging it is to get a short break away from home as very few destinations have the equipment needed to make a safe comfortable environment for their child.

Short breaks are hugely beneficial for many reasons not least the opportunity to make happy memories. The Safe and Sound travel pod funded by YBS will enable families to have a short holiday, something many thought would never be impossible” says Louise.

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.

In 2020, the Charitable Foundation donated £419,915 to 359 registered charities nominated by members and colleagues from around the UK.
