Local Charity Invites You to Brunch

Local children's charity Charlie House to hold the first charity brunch event in the North-East.

Charlie House, a North-East charity that supports babies, children and young people with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions, is hosting one of the region’s first charity brunch events.

The ‘Big Brunch’, held at the Marcliffe Hotel & Spa on Saturday the 23rd of February from 11am-4pm, is set to put the fun in fundraising, including delicious food, a raffle with a range of fantastic prizes, games and entertainment; with local DJ Kev Reid providing the best Motown and Soul hits for everyone to get up and dance to. It is guaranteed to be the perfect day out.

Speaking of the event, Rhona Miller, Fundraising Team Manager at Charlie House said;

“We’re delighted to add the Big Brunch to our fundraising calendar. It’s the first charity event of its kind in the city and offers guests a decadent brunch, fizz and fun - all for a very important local cause.

“The funds raised at the event will go towards the Charlie House ‘Big Build Appeal’ for a specialist support centre here in the North-east for children with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions, and their families.”

The £8m appeal launched in November last year and currently the charity has raised over £1.3m towards the project.

The 8-bedroom facility will vitally offer parents and carers the chance to recharge their batteries, safe in the knowledge that the children with complex disabilities will be in the care of specially trained medical staff. Set in four acres of land within Woodend Hospital, the centre will also enable the children and their families to make wonderful memories together with state-of-the-art spaces including a sensory room, library, spa pool, craft room, teen den, soft play area and therapy room. Crucially, the centre will have a dedicated private ‘Star room’ for families to spend precious time with their child after they have passed, treasure memories and receive visitors in a supported environment.

In the North-east of Scotland alone there are over 1,500 babies, children and young people with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions. Since the charity began in 2011, Charlie House has been committed to supporting these babies, children, young people and their families.

Its current services include activity clubs, siblings’ clubs, support from the Charlie House Community Nurse, one-to-one emotional and practical support from the Children & Family Support Manager and an annual adventure trip to Kielder Forest Park, run by the Calvert Trust. There are limited tickets remaining at a cost of £60 per person, including an arrival drink.
