FIRST BIRTHDAY BRINGS SPECIAL GIFT FOR CHILDREN’S CHARITY
Posted on March 11, 2014
The charity responsible for the ambitious fundraising campaign to create the unique Charlie House children’s respite care centre has celebrated its first birthday with the gift of a new home thanks to the generosity of an Aberdeen company.
Maritime Assurance and Consulting (MAC) has provided Charlie House with rent-free office accommodation to establish its first administrative base in the city.
The charity, which marked its first anniversary at the weekend, has been formed with the aim of delivering a residential facility in the north-east to deliver specialist care for children and young people with severe disabilities, complex health needs and life limiting conditions. The £8million appeal has generated huge support since its official launch in January last year, both from individuals and groups as well as the business community.
MAC has been among the companies to rally behind the Charlie House plans and has strengthened its links to the cause for 2014 by providing vital office space within its own headquarters on Skene Street, Aberdeen.
Tracy Johnstone, chairwoman of Charlie House, said: “Since the official launch of the charity last year there has been an enormous amount of work done to lay the foundations. Establishing a dedicated Charlie House office was a big part of that process and we’re delighted to be going into the New Year with that now in place.
“The support MAC has provided is incredible and everyone connected with the Charlie House appeal is very grateful. We are all looking forward to putting our new home to good use as we drive forward with our plans for 2014.”
The charity’s committee is made up of a group of professionals and parents who have personally experienced extreme difficulties in accessing appropriate planned respite care or short breaks for them and their children. The year ahead will see the fundraising effort continue as the organisation builds upon the success of 2013.← back
