Elin’s Charlie House-versary!

Today, me and this wee pal have been colleagues for an entire year – and what an amazing year it has been!

I still remember my first ever day at the Charlie House office. I remember how excited I was about my first ever “grown up” job, but also how I in secret spent the entire day worrying that it might be over before it even started – that at the end of the day I would be told that they’d made a terrible mistake and that I wasn’t the right person for the job. Guess what? It seems like I am!

I don’t just like my job, I love it. During this past year, I’ve been able to grow so much as a person and I honestly don’t think I would be the person I am today if it wasn’t for Charlie House. It is absolutely amazing to be a part of such a close-knit team of wonderful and hard-working women – and for the first time in forever, I actually enjoy going to work in the morning.

However, the best part of my job is without a doubt the time I get to spend with the families. Because every time I meet them, they brighten my day – and hopefully the different activities we organise for them will be able to brighten theirs. So far, I think my favourite Activities Club activity must be ice skating at the Linx Arena. There’s always a really good turn out and it’s such a sporty activity that everyone in the family can participate in and enjoy. Actually, did you know that a wheelchair acts as an excellent penguin (such a good name for a skating aid!) for people who aren’t the best of skaters?  I feel like a pro pushing my Charlie House buddies across the ice!

In April this year, I was lucky enough to be able to go from part-time to full-time staff here at Charlie House – and it has honestly made a world of difference. Now I can spend so much more time researching and visiting new and exciting facilities so that in the end I will be able to present our families with even more exciting activities they can participate in as a family. I’ve also managed to start up Charlie House’s very own Siblings Club (dedicated to the able-bodied siblings) and in the very near future we will also be able to run regular Coffee Mornings, Under 5 Clubs and Young Adults Clubs. So if my past year with Charlie House has been great, then I’m absolutely certain that this coming year won’t be anything but fantastic.
